TAX ISSUES FOR ARTISTS
Washington Lawyers for the Arts (WLA) is hosting a virtual workshop on May 24, 2022, to help you better understand tax issues related to the business of art. Tax and art don't share a lot in common other than being three-letter words, but, as a creative entrepreneur, you need to understand the basics.
This session will cover essential tax topics at both the federal and state level - for individual artists and small business owners alike. A few of the topics will include:
the basics of business formation, including entity selection (and associated tax consequences);
business deductions and substantiating deductible expenses;
employment/self-employment taxes;
the tax implications of hiring employees;
working with tax and legal professionals;
donating created works;
travel and work in other states;
general state and local tax issues; and
common tax pitfalls.
