Copyright Law Fundamentals

Thursday, May 17th, 2012, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Drinks & light hors d'oeuvres provided!

Learning about copyright law helps artists protect their work and avoid disputes with other parties. Presenter Mark Wittow of K&L Gates will talk with you about what copyright is, what it protects, how it’s acquired, and how it differs from other intellectual property rights such as trademarks and patents. Issues you may not have thought of, including what it means if you create a work while working on contract for someone else, will be covered. You’ll learn when a use of a copyrighted work is a “fair use,” who can do what when more than one person creates a work, and the benefits of copyright registration. You will also learn what you can do if you think that someone has improperly used your work.
